NGĀ MOANA | OCEANS is the first game in a series that follows the Peoples of the Pacific as they stride from the stone to the stellar age, in a rich Universe of OCEANS, ISLANDS, PEOPLES, WORLDS, STARS, and GODS.
OCEANS starts this epic story on a small Island home. Players play intrepid Characters from the Island who are preparing to venture into the middle of the vast Pacific Ocean, at the calling of their Ariki (Chief), following the tale of a navigator that returned from sea with stories of the Great Fish of Maui.
Players will play as a small whānau (family), within the story. They will work to build Waka Hourua (seafaring boats) and their whānau Mana, while following the Seasons and the Atua (Gods) that drive them. Players move three Meeples representing three generations of the whānau around an Island, collecting resources and building their technology.
The game uses an asynchronous game ending mechanic, meaning Players can finish earlier than others, but risk missing out on building bigger, and better Waka Hourua. Additionally, when playing as a game series, Players order of completion in OCEANS translates directly to the starting order of ISLANDS, providing a connected narrative between the games.
