The game is played of a board which reminds of the petals of a flower. Each player has 1 moving token only, but there are also 70 neutral (blocking) tokens in the game. The idea of Blockade predates Amazons.

At the beginning, both player place their moving and one neutral token on the board. Each subsequent turn, a player must move his token to an adjacent empty space. Then, he places a neutral token on the board trying to surround his opponent. The players wins who manages that the token of his opponent cannot move anymore.

On the first move, a restriction applies for both players. Neither the moving nor the blocking token may be placed in a marked area in the center of the board. Together with the slightly irregular board, this is supposed to cancel out any first move advantage.
