Peace Conference is a cooperative paper-and-pencil game that appeared in Sackson’s book Beyond Competition. The game is played with a deck of 24 cards (4 each of values 1-6. You may use the A-6 of a standard deck or cut out the cards on the back cover of the book). The scoresheet/playing field shows 4 large boxes labeled A-D, where each P writes their initials. In the middle are 6 grids of boxes (known as “accords”), each showing a different two-letter combination of the letters A-D )(AB, BC, etc.) There are 4 girds showing all the 3 letter combinations (ABC, ABD, ACD, BCD) and one grid showing ABCD. Winding around the grids is a conflict track (aka the “path to destruction”) with 100 spaces. For a four-player game, deal out 4 hands of six cards. Each P secretly selects one card from their hand and places it facedown on the table. The cards are then revealed simultaneously. If any two cards have the same value, a “conflict” has occurred – mark off 1 box on the conflict track. If three cards have the same value, mark of 3 boxes. If all four have the same value mark off 4 boxes. If 2, 3, or 4 cards in sequence are played (e.g.5-6, 3-4-5, or 1-2-3-4), those players are in “accord” - check off a box in the grid corresponding to the players who played the sequence (i.e. If player A played a 1 and player C played a 2, you’d mark off a box in the AC grid). Only mark off a box for the longest sequence(s) played. If two separate two-card sequences were played (e.g. 2-3 and 5-6), mark off both grids. Now each player plays another card from their hand in the same manner until all six cards are played. Cards previously played are left faceup on the table as a reference/aid. Players may not divulge or discuss the contents of their hands. After all six cards have been played, reshuffle the deck, deal out the cards again, and continue. The players win if a) all the boxes of any 3 of the two-player accords are marked off, b) all the boxes of any 2 of the three-layer accords are marked off, or c) 15-boxes of the four-player accord are marked off. The players lose if the last box (box 0) of the conflict track is marked off. For games with 2 or 3 players, one or two players will control a dummy hand.
