Mare Nostrum: Fronte Mare is a simulation game recreating every aspect of modern naval combat in the Mediterranean Sea during World War Two. Each hex represents 1 maritime mile and unit scales represent single ships. Game turns represent 15 minutes. Average playing time is 2 to 8 hours depending on the scenario.

Complexity rating is from 5.6 to 6.2 (using the old SPI scale). Number of players can be 1 to 4, or teams.

Components include:


2 counter sheets, 300 counters (white for Italians, red for British and Australians, blue for the French and a red, white and blue striped counter for the single Dutch ship).
2 rules folder, one in Italian and one in English,
2 scenario folders, one in Italian and one in English,
1 counter trays with labels (the labels were preprinted on stickers and the case looks like a mini tackle box),
1 game-table sheet,
1 modifying technical table,
6 floating tactical maps,
3 ships log sheets,
2 colored dice.

Operation Mincemeat (hypothetical) August 24, 1941, plus many others.


This game was designed to be part of a series, "Fronte Mare". Miniatures can also be adapted to this system easily.
